For 10 years, I ran Bonfirecherry.
Bonfirecherry was a linocut printmaking business I ran between 2013 to 2023. Bonfirecherry was originally a fictional business I came up with when I was studying Graphic Design in college between 2009/2010 which promoted screen printed t-shirts. I wanted to continue this after college but I didn’t have a job. It took me a few years to get my first job in my teens (I know very late getting employment), by that time I decided it was going to cost too much money to do screen printing as I had no way at home of setting a design on a screen without spending tons of money on expensive equipment.
With this cost problem, I looked back in my history of art and remembered I learnt about linocut printmaking & went with that.
In short, lino cut is like a stamp, you carve the design into the linocut backwards, cutting out what you don’t want printing out, roll some ink onto it, place the material onto it, use a dry roller to roll over it to transfer the ink onto the material and carefully take off, like the example above.
I had a great decade of running a very small business producing art, I did want to do it full time but generated enough sales from it so I did it alongside a part time job until I got a full time which I got a few years ago. I had so much fun with producing art and connected with so many people, most I am still connected with now and got a mention in my work.
So I decided to retire Bonfirecherry as a business, but it’s not like I’m stopping printmaking altogether. I have produced a new design for Matchbox Cafe in recent years and November 2025, I will produce some linocut print designs as a way to say thanks for The Trip Between the Two!
