Hello everyone!
This is Megan and I am back with another manga review!

I came across A Silent Voice as a film around 2/3 years ago if my memory is right and it’s honestly one of my favourite anime films, I have watched in quite some time.
So, I was quite surprised during my manga binge earlier this year, that the film is based on a manga series!

I read most of the story online first, then came across a collector’s edition online at a good price especially as it contained 7 books and some extra items with it. I bought this around the time I purchased Shino Can’t Say Her Name, which I reviewed here.
So, with all of that out of the way, let’s talk about the plot of the series!
A Silent Voice is about a boy called Shoya and he starts childhood being a typical bully boy. That changes when a girl called Shoko, who is deaf comes to his school and he bullies her. Despite Shoko trying her best to become friends with Shoya, he continues to bully her til she must leave the school.
“Karma is like a boomerang, what you give out will always come back to you.”

The story continues a few years later, Shoya is now a loner with childhood regrets with the plan on ending his life, bumps into Shoko again in high school.

Shoya has wanted the chance to make up for his bullying of Shoya, now the time has come, what’s going to happen?
I’ve briefly covered the summary of the story. There is 7 volumes altogether, I really don’t want to spoil too much. You will need to read the manga or watch the film to find out what happens!
I recommend the manga after the film if you like/liked it, as there are arcs that were cut due to time and some scenes are in a different order that you would have seen in animated form.
While there are happy moments be at school, at a amusement park or at a bridge feeding fish. There are moments in the story that might shock/trigger people, especially those who have been depressed and have thought about s_____ as this comes up in the story twice.
Despite that, I recommend it because of how the author, Yoshitoki Oima, shows that there are consequences if you are bullying someone and what it is like being different e.g., if you are deaf.
Check out the film or books and leave your feedback in the comments below as I would love to have a chat!
Thanks for reading,
Megan
